The Secret to becoming wildly successful in Real Estate is... You!

Let's cut to the chase, the secret to becoming wildly successful in any sales role, especially Real Estate is simple... It's you! You're either going to put in the work and do it, or not, and if you are, then there is a long journey facing you that is anything but easy...


As Real Estate Recruiters, we are fortunate enough to work with the exceptional Agents and Agencies that are working hard for success and building their business. They ask us to keep our eye's peeled for those dedicated Agents that want to be successful selling Real Estate so they can grow their teams and capture market share in their area.


We also get those calls from upcoming Agents that haven't quite got their head around it all yet, looking for a new Agency to join, but when we dig deeper, we work out they are constantly flapping around looking for someone to save them...


It's super easy to see the ones who haven't got their head around what it all actually means to work toward success in a Real Estate environment. Their the one's that keep jumping around looking for that Agency where it's easy. They think that jumping around to different Agencies until they find one that showers them with praise just for turning up in the morning, provide them $1.5m dollar listing leads and pay them the lions share of the commissions and a juicy base salary each week so they can coast along happily like a government Job, then they will settle in and be happy... That just not the reality of Real Estate Sales...


When they finally realise those jobs dont exist in Real Estate (so 82% bail out), and it doesn't matter where they go, or who they join, it's the same gig. They have to list and sell. Success selling Real Estate is an individual sport and it comes down to them! Let me explain...


Head in the game...

You can play tennis for Australia, but your teammates and coach can only cheer you on from the stands. They can't jump on the court in the middle of your solo match and take over for you! You're either going to win or not. For any chance of winning, you would hope that all the pre-training and practice leading up to the match gave you the technique to have a shot...but winning the match takes grit, stamina, endurance and you have to be fitter than your opponent and wear them down to go the distance. Being that prepared takes a heap of effort, dedication and time...


If you win the match, you get the prize money...but, if you don't...well, better luck next time. Maybe be more prepared and train harder or, if you realise you're not dedicated enough to put in that type of work to get to the same level of the top players, then, maybe, you need to face the hard reality that you don't have what it takes, and decide to get out of the game all-together...


Do you think your results would be any different if you changed teams and went to play for New Zealand for example... Not likely. You're still you, doing you... so why would changing Agencies result in anything much different? Your results come down to your dedication and willingness to put in the work for the love of the game, and then it doesn't matter who you play for...


It's not your coach's responsibility to buy all your tennis gear for you, or pay you a phat base salary each week to turn up to training. Their already giving up their time to train you. If you front up with all your gear and are ready to invest in yourself to play, then the coach can show you the best techniques to help you hone your skills, so you can win more matches. When you win, you get big prize money and once you start to find your success, you can buy better gear right?


So why would you think playing the Real Estate Sales game would be any different? Asking for a salary in Real Estate is like asking your tennis coach for a salary to play the game. They will just pass by you and focus on the players that are prepared, have all their gear and turned up to be trained.


Agencies want those Agents who understand all this and are ready to put in the work! Their Job is to coach you until you're winning everything... not play the game for you or pay you to be there! You have to be the one who wants to jump out of bead each day for training at 5am and go again at 6pm. You have to be the one who wants it. If you want it, you'll do it without being pushed. If you dont...you can't expect amazing levels of success in the game right?



Real Estate is a business, not a Job. There is a big difference. I promise, if you sit next to any successful Real Estate Agent or any business owner for that matter, and you ask them if they found success easily or it got given to them in some form... I am positive they will laugh so hard they will fall off their chair...


I am absolutely certain they would stare right back at you and tell you that they worked harder than they ever worked in their life, did all the hard things that others just wouldn't, worked whatever hours it took to do all the things each day that needed doing...and at some point, years later, they put their head up, looked around and realised they had not only survived, but somewhat thrived...


Success is the result of discipline, and grit moves the needle. If you have neither of these things, then there is a good chance you will end up one of the 82% that leave the industry in their first year or so. The only secret formula to success is when you decide that you're sick and tired of your current situation, and you realise that the only person coming to save you, is the current version of you that wants to change it. You have to change it...no one else will do it for you. That's the secret to success. It's You....

You don't want to approach Agency Principals with your hands out begging them for a phat base salary and leads on an 80% split, so you can feel comfortable and safe turning up to work every day. Principals are sick and tired of Agents approaching them with their hand out expecting that the Agency will support them with all the infrastructure, support team, branding, with phat base salaries, big commission splits and leads. That's a fairy tale. Real Estate is a commission only gig, and you need to realise that upfront. You turn up to work, You list houses, you sell them, you get paid. You don't and you wont...


Agency's simply want good Agents that will work hard to bring the deals to the table, and then they will coach you on how to do the business. That's Real Estate. It's not a Job where you get paid every week. You certainly can get paid every week...a lot, but you have to sell a house every week to get paid every week. If you only sell one property every 2-3 months, then, you can only expect to get paid once every 2-3 months. It's totally in your hands... If you want regular income, do regular sales. Simple!
